Adolph Schuman founded Lilli Ann in San Francisco in 1934. The company was named after his wife, Lillian. In the 1940s Schuman began travelling to Europe to purchase exquisite fabrics from small textile companies in France and Italy. Many of these companies were struggling financially and depended on his patronage to keep their businesses afloat. As a result of his efforts he was awarded: Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by France and Order of the Legion of Merit by Italy.
