An abstract black and white piece. The majority of the background appears to be composed of human faces that are repeated throughout the entire piece. There looks to be some sort of colosseum on the left and a very long snake--perhaps a rattlesnake--on the bottom of the print., Pierrot's Tapestry; 26x36 inches; M. Izquierdo; corrections print project, Manuel Izquierdo was born in Madrid, Spain, and fled to the United States settling in Portland, Oregon in 1943. While he was in high school Manuel was encouraged to pursue wood-cuts by Lloyd Reynolds, the well-known calligrapher. In 1951 Manuel graduated from the Pacific Northwest College of Art and soon after became a professor there. Manuel Izquierdo received the Oregon Governor's Award in 1991 and has exhibited work both in the Northwest and nationally, including a ten-year retrospective at the Portland Art Museum in 1967. Having completed many commissions his sculpture can be seen in a variety of Portland public spaces such as Pettygrove Square.
