OSU's new Kerr Library was constructed in 1962 and 1963. One of the features of the building was a series of tile mosaic murals throughout the building. OSU art faculty member Nelson Sandgren created the murals. The mural in this photo was located on the third floor of the library. Parts of this mural remain on the third floor of the Valley Library.
J. Leo Fairbanks was the mural artist. J. Leo Fairbanks was a professor of Art and Architecture and Chairman of the department from 1923-1946. The art department's Fairbanks Hall is named after him. Some of his paintings and sculptures are contained in the Memorial Union art collection.

Gayle Feyrer's mural hangs in the background in a computer lab. The mural was commissioned for Olga's Ice Cream Store in Corvallis and was purchased by the Computer Science Department after the store closed. The mural still resides in the computer lab today. This photograph was used in the Computer Science Department's manual.
