Harriman in a $25,000,000 railroad battle in the rugged Deschutes gorge, came to Bend to drive the golden spike that marked the completion of the gorge lines to Bend. Hill is pictured here in a speech near the site of the railroad station. It was a warm October day, with thousands present from all parts of Oregon.
