"Rose Bowl Football Game, Duke University. On January 1, 1942 the Rose Bowl was played in Durham, NC, the only time it has not been held in Pasadena, California. When the game was canceled after the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 because of fear of having a large gathering on the west coast, Duke offered to be the host. The score was Oregon State 20, Duke 16."
