A building crane and a number of smokestacks emitting plumes of smoke are visible. There seems to be a water tower on the left of the photo. Tall pilings have been driven in places along the riverbank; some wooden buildings are visible. The verticle lift bridge designed by Waddell & Harrington has just begun to jut out over the water.

He is one of about ten men, all but one wearing hats or caps, who are lined up in the water and along the edge of the shore contemplating the catch or watching the photographer. A black and white view of the Cascade Locks on the Columbia River, approaching from the west. The locks were completed in 1896 and submerged in 1938 with the completion of the Bonneville Dam. In the photograph, the lock gates are closed. A town is visible in the distance on the heavily wooded far bank of the river, and small wooded islands and some rocks are also seen in the water. To the right of the picture are several light-colored wooden houses, which all appear to be multi-storied. To the right of the houses runs the highway. In the distance rise the forested hills and moutains.

In the foreground twigs of bare branches stick up from the snow on the bank. To the right is some kind of building. Although there seems to be clear water near the shore, the rest of the river looks frozen over. Across the river are low bluffs.
A tinted photographic postcard. The legend in red at upper left reads "Lighthouse at junction of the Columbia and the Willamette Rivers." The lighthouse, which stands in the middle of the water, is a wooden structure with a metal roof. The wooden pilings and beams supporting the living quarters are built in a square, but the building itself is octagonal. On the lowest level is a fenced deck surrounding the building; the level above that features four tall gable windows, one looking to each of the four directions. At the top is a fenced widow's walk. On the left side of the building can be seen a lantern and a tall pole, perhaps a lightening rod. On the shore beyond the lighthouse are trees. The lighthouse was built near Kelly Point in 1895. In 1935 the lighthouse was electrified and no longer needed keepers to light the lantern or ring the fog bell. It was sold and moved during the 1940s and burned during the 1950s.
