Team members (from left) Amy Martin, Kimberly White, Jen Lesko and Karen Thompson practice for a seat on the women’s Varsity 8. Martin was one of OSU’s most successful rowers, garnering two first team All-Pac-10 selections (1995 and 1996) and being named to the 2000 Olympic team. Martin led the Beavers to a ninth place finish in the Varsity 8 at the 1997 NCAA Championships. She also participated in the 1997, 1998, and 1999 World Championships, earning a bronze medal in 1998 in the women’s 2 and a silver medal in 1999 in the women’s 8. White was named a U.S. Rowing Association Scholar All-American in 1994.
Photo was used in the 1928 Beaver yearbook, volume 22, on page 253."More than a few of the victories won by the fighting Beaver nine were the result of the appressive playing and spectacular defensive work of Captain Schulmerich in center field. Always smiling or playing some prank, Wes was one of the greatest drawing cards on the team. Playing his trird and last year on the varsity, Schulmerich was a deciding factor in many contests. His clever base-running, fielding and work at bat featured every contest. With his long, timely home runs and sensational catches in the outfield, coupled with flashy base-pilfering, Wes filled the position vacated by former captain Escallier in great style."--1928 Beaver yearbook
