John Thompson was a Boston blacksmith who settled in The Dalles in 1869. The house, which remained as a family dwelling until 1949, became a boarding house, and then a commercial establishment. This image was included in the documentation to support a nomination to the National Register of Historic Places, a program of the National Park Service.
