Hardlines Design Company (HDC) was contracted by Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Atlantic Division to complete a cultural resources inventory and evaluation of buildings and structures at Naval Weapons Systems Training Facility Boardman (NWSTF Boardman). An overall cultural resources survey of buildings and structures outside of the Oregon Trail area had never been undertaken, so all buildings and structures covered in this study were surveyed for the first time. HDC surveyed 15 buildings and structures on the Navy-owned range lands. These facilities are range buildings and small structures such as spotting towers and fuel tanks, plus the aircraft bombing target range itself. However, fieldwork for the project was completed in 2008, and since that time, seven of the 15 buildings and structures originally surveyed have been demolished (see note below) and are not included in this final report. Also, the Oregon Trail crosses the south end of the range property, but resources associated with the trail have been surveyed in previous investigations and are listed in the National Register of Historic Places (National Register); HDC did not survey these resources. The final version of this report covers eight facilities built from 1947 to 1989. According to Navy real estate records, six of these properties were constructed from 1943 to 1965 and have reached or will soon reach the 50-year benchmark established by the National Register.
