This sculptural installation, which can be viewed from either the first or second floor lobbies, presents a bird in flight attached to the ceiling, dramatically lit by an elaborate lighting mechanism that extends up from the circular cutaway in the ceiling between the first and second floors. The water cascades down the stairs, around the boulders, and fills a small pool at the bottom., Alice Wingwall; Science Complex; U of O Water Feature, Alice Wingwall is a blind artist. She suffers from retinitis pigmentosa, a hereditary degenerative disease of the eye. She relies to a great deal on her other senses in envisioning her art, and designed the fountain in the courtyard by the sounds water makes when falling on rocks. Wingwall earned an M.F.A. in sculpture from UC Berkeley and was a professor of sculpture and director of the studio arts program at Wellesley College. She has explored many different mediums, and she trained in stained-glass fabrication in Paris.
