The work of the pile-driver and use of railroad cars to carry construction supplies on the miles-long trestle are described. Messrs. M. J. The five photographs show lowering of "mattresses" at the end of the jetty; a train load of rock starting its run out; loading rock onto the dump-cars at the jetty dock; the jet pile-driver used in constructing the trestle; and dumping rocks after the "mattresses" have been lowered.

On the morning of March 10, 1957, the massive steel and concrete gates of The Dalles Dam closed and choked back the downstream surge of the Columbia River. Six hours later and eight miles upstream, Wy-am (Celilo Falls), the age-old Indian salmon fishery was under water.

Black and white photograph of the Bridge of the Gods over the Columbia River. Fir trees are visible on the left bank and shrubs and grass are visible on the right bank. Some utility poles are visible on the right hand side of the image. Completed in 1926, the Bridge of the Gods is the third oldest bridge on the Columbia River. It plays a major role in the Pacific Crest Trail by linking Oregon and Washington states. Work began in 1920; it took six years to build. The bridge was privately owned until 1961, when it was purchased by the Port of Cascade Locks. The Pacific Crest Trail crosses the bridge, which is 1,858 feet long and 135 feet above the water. The name of the bridge comes from Indian legends. The man-made bridge was named after the natural bridge, probably a causeway or dam.

On the riverbank the ice is piled up in geometric chunks and is beginning to melt. Behind the ice two black shapes, like boards or masts, stick up diagonally. In the distance are low hills.
A tinted photographic postcard. The legend in red at upper left reads "Lighthouse at junction of the Columbia and the Willamette Rivers." The lighthouse, which stands in the middle of the water, is a wooden structure with a metal roof. The wooden pilings and beams supporting the living quarters are built in a square, but the building itself is octagonal. On the lowest level is a fenced deck surrounding the building; the level above that features four tall gable windows, one looking to each of the four directions. At the top is a fenced widow's walk. On the left side of the building can be seen a lantern and a tall pole, perhaps a lightening rod. On the shore beyond the lighthouse are trees. The lighthouse was built near Kelly Point in 1895. In 1935 the lighthouse was electrified and no longer needed keepers to light the lantern or ring the fog bell. It was sold and moved during the 1940s and burned during the 1950s.
